Kauai - Powerline Trail Wailua , HI - Mountain Biking - 26 miles |
Preview: Powerline Trail is an incredible ride which cuts the island almost in half. Starting from Wailua, Powerline is a grueling hillclimb. The trail starts at approximately 620 feet, and in just five miles, reaches an altitude of approximately 2,000 feet before descending into Hanalei Valley on the northern side of the island. The lush, tropical views of the native Hawaiian rainforest here confirm Kauai 's nickname, "The Garden Island." Note: Challenging 4WD road. Slippery when wet. | ||||
Kauai - Kalepa Ridge Trail Lihue , HI - Mountain Biking - 6 miles

Preview: From many sections of this trail, you will have a flawless 360-degree view which includes the coastline, the Makaleha and Nounou Mountains ; in the distance to the south, Kipu Ridge; and to the west Kilohana Crater and Wai'ale'ale. Kalepa Ridge has a series of ups and downs, some of which may be too steep to ride. Certain drop-off sections will also require you to dismount and carry your bike. Note: Singletrack. . Preview: Permission is required from property owner, AMFAC Sugar. Kealia is a mild grade ride which offers riders a variety of singletrack and 4WD roads. Less than half a mile from Kealia Beach Park , riders find trail access on the left. A slight hill climb brings you to the start of the many trails. Some tricky sections may require riders to dismount and walk their bikes. In some sections, the marks of skilled and veteran riders have been left behind showing their preferred line to clear the various obstacles. Along the ride you will come across many intersecting trails and roads which open up to beautiful views of the coast | ||||
Kauai - Kuamoo - Nounou Trail Kapaa , HI - Mountain Biking - 4.6 miles

Preview: The Kuamo'o - Nounou Trail is a quick and fun singletrack that wraps around the lower slopes of Nounou Mountain . Also known as the "Sleeping Giant" due to its profile from a distance, Nounou offers beautiful views up slope toward the Makaleha Mountains and Wai'ale'ale. In the distance, the Makaleha Mountains stand tall against the gray cloud layer that typically hugs the summit walls. After even slight rains on the Makaleha Mountains , waterfalls appear as if they were pouring directly out of the sky. Winding in and out of the dense forest canopy, the trail is laced with roots making for fun and challenging obstacles. Note: Singletrack. Do not ride when wet or raining. |

Kauai - Kuilau Ridge Trail Wailua , HI - Mountain Biking - 4.4 miles |
Preview: The Kuilau Trail, an excellent ride for jungle lovers, offers a ride on the wild side. Twisting up Kuilau Ridge, the trail is narrow in some places, so you may have to get off and walk your bike in those tricky sections. After the first mile through the thick canopy of trees, the vegetation opens up and provides stunning views. Across the valley on your left, you can see the Powerline Trail marked by power lines and utility poles. Behind them, the dark walls of Wai'ale'ale are shadowed almost year 'round by clouds and rain. The Kuilau Trail is 2.2 miles one way. Connecting with Moalepe Trail, makes an optional 9.5 out and back. Note: Singletrack, stay on main trail, and do not ride when wet. | ||||

Preview: Starting from Olohena Road , Moalepe Trail offers a mild dirt road for the first 1.7 miles up and is ridable for beginners. Private ranch lands border the first portion of the road and are fenced off, so stay on main road. Excellent views of the Makaleha Mountains are found on your right. The trail narrows and becomes muddy after 1.7 miles. Only intermediate to advanced riders should proceed from here. You may have to walk your bike around the tricky sections of this double track. Some mud puddles are deeper than they appear, so be ready for a dirty ride. Note: Doubletrack and 4WD road, stay on main trail, and wet ride OK. | ||||
