COVID-19 - Resources

I feel like I’ve got a window into Island School & I can’t even tell you how thankful I am that my son goes there!!!  Seriously.  You guys have a stellar program, I’m so impressed!!!

VOYAGERS-we are in this together!

As the entire nation makes the transition to students learning at home, Island School wants to help the community by putting together a page of our favorite resources. These times call for us all to work together and we want to put this page together for families across our island whether or not they are students at Island School. Please take some time and look through the resources listed below. For our Island School families, our teachers are providing continued lessons planned with your students in mind.  All teachers have office hours to answer any questions or concerns you or your student has. We are still here for you! In addition, the teachers have been combing through all the resources available online to find the absolute best for our students. If they can’t find what they are looking for they are creating new content to post for our students. We know that the resources listed can’t replace a high-quality education, but we hope they can be some help at this time.

"Island School’s transition to on-line distance learning is an experience that my older boys have jumped into with no hesitation. Even though in-person, classroom interactions are missed, on-line learning has empowered them with the responsibility of their own learning schedule. In addition, the teachers have worked diligently to really connect with each of my children in their own way. This has really helped ease my concerns with distance learning.

Our elementary child was initially unsure, but once he got accustomed to how Ms. Ka’aihue set things up, he got to work, and it's now second nature to him. He likes being able to finish assignments on his own time, but misses the physical interaction with his classmates and teachers.

As parents, we have had to make the adjustment with time commitment to education. Education is now a family affair where we are more actively involved. We have been afforded the family time right now because of social distancing and are actually learning a lot. Island School has created the framework for my children to find success in this unusual time of social distancing. Having an Island School on-line distance learning webpage as a resource center will move communication and interactions ahead and prove to be a great reference point."
