The boys participated in the 2nd Annual Garden Island Invitational Basketball Tournament this past weekend.  We participated in the JV and Varsity brackets and both teams were able to secure one victory each in the tournament.  The Varsity defeated Parker of the Big Island and the JV defeated Aiea of the OIA. Due to our low number turn out for this season, Island School has decided to combine the 2 teams and participate at the Varsity level only.  Our first home game of the season will be on Saturday, December 21st against Kauai High School at 7:30pm.  Please come out and show your support.
Island School vs. Kauaʻi High School – December 9, 2019
Aside from the morning rain, it turned out to be a beautiful day to open the KIF season. We came out with 12 players active due to other events happening and met the defending KIF champions head-on. We had players playing different positions that they're used to.
Captain Haven Sadler was active in the middle of the field, fending off two, sometimes three defenders en route to knocking passes to the outside. Captain Katie Cook hustled and anchored the defensive line by blocking shots, intercepting passes, and bumping attackers off the ball. Captain Sophie Carswell showed sound hands by making upwards of eight saves. Defensive Midfielder Sienna Temme charged into a few challenges to disrupt the Red Raider attack. Wailana Marvin was instrumental in communication to the defense and had her hand in winning 50/50 punts and restarts.
Overall, the Voyagers lost, but the experience proved that the girls would not quit, even behind six scores and having only one substitute. Our next game is against Waimea at Hanapepe Stadium on Tuesday (12/10). On Saturday 12/13, we take on the Kapa'a Warriors.
The paddling season opened this past Saturday at Nawiliwili.  Our two boys teams along with Ms. Ella Beck secured a 3rd place finish.  Next competition is scheduled for this Saturday, December 14th at 12pm at Nawiliwili.
