High School News

High school Spanish classes learned how to make papel picado decorations for Día de los Muertos, the Mexican holiday with pre-hispanic indigenous roots, in which those who have died are honored and celebrated by building ofrendas of remembrance on November 1 and 2 every year.  Students in Spanish 2 and Spanish 3 created a class ofrenda to honor Kobe Bryant, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Stan Lee (creator of the Marvel comics).  Some students showed their artistic talent in creating alebrijes, brightly colored imaginary creatures that have elements of different animals and are a Mexican art form based on the ancient Mayan tradition of nahaules, animal spirit guides that were believed to accompany a person throughout their life.  ¡Feliz Día de los Muertos!
