The entire school gathered in Samuel W. and Edith K. Wilcox Gymnasium on Friday to celebrate Island School's 42nd birthday. The Class of 2019 was recognized as they made a solo entrance into the gym. Shannon Graves gave a speech, outlining the many accomplishments the school has achieved, followed by student leaders from elementary, middle and high school, who announced the ho‘okupu projects for the day. Na Pua O Ka Maile, under the direction of Kumu Sabra Kauka, performed for the audience. Thirty-four legacy students (children of IS alumni) were called up to blow out the candles on the birthday cake. Board members Kathy Richardson (President), David Pratt (VP) and Sam Pratt (Treasurer) were in attendance, as well as Founding Mothers, Merlyn Ruddell and Peggy Ellenburg.
