Sports Update 1-30-19

Basketball
The boys JV exhibition season continued with a game on Saturday , January 26, at their home court, the Voyagers challenged the Red Raider's "B" team. On a night where points were hard to come by, the Voyagers relied heavily on their tenacious team defense & free throw shooting. With the game in balance and no team able to seperate themselves by more than a 5 point margin. Kaua‘i High unleashed a barrage of 3 point shots that swung the momentum in their favor, evening the score. With just under 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter, sophomore John Bancroft and freshman Josh Dobashi sinked in a couple key free throws to put the Voyagers up by 2. However, the Red Raiders would not go down without a fight. At the 40 second mark, with the score 34 to 32, the Voyagers stepped up on defense, denying the Red Raiders four opportunities to score by creating three turnovers and a huge block with a rebound by sophomore Luke Hunadi, sealing the game. Final: Island School 34, Kaua‘i High 32. Led by strong inside play of Freshman Dylan Date and Luke Hunadi, who both combined for 17 rebounds and 17 points. Along with tough individual defense by sophomores Wanbli Primeaux and John Bancroft, who combined for 10 steals.

The excitement resumes this coming Saturday, 2/2/19, 5:30pm, when the Voyagers will once again meet up with the Kaua‘i High Red Raiders at Kaua‘i High. The season ends soon, so come out and support your Island School boys basketball team!
