Isle Hoops Excitement

Last week, both boys teams played three games. The Blue team secured a victory against an overmatched Papalina B team on Wednesday, then followed it up with their best performance of the year on Thursday against Na Koa, in a game that came down to the last shot. While we came up on the short end, the team played excellently, especially on the defensive end. Head Coach Phil Baclayon commented, "Our boys got game. Tough, smart, never gave up, fighting to the end. So proud of them."

Then on Saturday, the Blue team challenged Lihu‘e Warriors. Leaning on defensive effort and intensity, the Blue team overcame a 20-6 deficit at the half, which grew to 22-6 at one point, by unleashing its full-court press defense. The full-court press suffocated the Warriors, leading to a 25-5 run that ended in victory. The kids really learned the power of perseverance and fighting through adversity in that game, Great job!

The Gold team also was in action last week, playing games against Lihu‘e Warriors, Thunder and Hot Shots. Although the Gold team came up short in all three games, their effort was rewarded toward the end of each game when the shots finally started to fall. On Saturday, highlighted by a barrage of buckets by Chris Jobe '25, the Gold team put up their most points of the year. Also shining through with tough defense on each opponent's biggest player was Graydon Rosenthal '26. The Gold team plays its last regular season game on Tuesday against Westside. Both teams will qualify for the playoffs, which take place in the coming week. This season has been a great jump off point for the older kids and a learning experience for the younger kids.

Club basketball will continue with Na Koa's eastside league which runs from April - June 2019. New players are welcome. We are currently recruiting girls as well to play on a 5th and Under team in the upcoming Lynx league which also runs from April - June 2019. Practices for the girls are currently Fridays from 4 - 5:45pm.
