Isle Hoops Victorious

Isle Hoops, made up entirely of Island School 4th - 6th grade boys, hosted the 2nd Annual Holiday Classic over Winter Break. Our young Voyagers are loving HOOPS at Island School. The tournament brough the Kaua‘i community to our beautiful campus, as well as some players from Maui! Island School is growing and contributing toward Kaua‘i's basketball community.

The boys finished 2-2, ending the tournament with an exciting come from behind victory vs. Thunder. Down 19-14 with 2:24 to go in the game, Isle Hoops tightened up its defense and relied on the offensive wizardry of Lucas Summerhays '25, who hit a 3-pointer, a layup and free throw to push Isle Hoops ahead for the 22-19 victory. The boys are looking forward to their County League season which began this week and will continue throughout the month of January with games in Kalaheo and Kilauea.

Last Monday, January 7th, the boys kicked off the 5th/6th County League season. After watching Porter Lewis '27 put together a 360 degree spinning layup for the Gold team in a losing effort against Lihu‘e Warriors A, the Blue team played a tough close game before yielding to Papalina A 25-19. The Blue team plays its 2nd game of the season Thursday, Jan. 10th against West Boys, with both the Blue team and the Gold team competing Saturday, January 12th against Papalina B and Lihu‘e Warriors A, respectively. On Thursday, January 17th, the Gold team takes on Papalina B and Saturday, January 19th the Blue team takes on Lihu‘e Thunder. All at Kalaheo Gym.

Last Saturday, our team participated in the County League Skills Challenge at Kalaheo Gym. Deacon Hawk won the hot potato contest. Kahi Apao, Deacon Hawk and Chris Jobe took 1st place in the Relay Competition. Deacon led off the relay competition, speedily dribbling to half court before switching directions and hitting a layup. Kahi then took over, effortlessly dribbling around and through 3 chairs before also switching directions and hitting a layup. Chris then hit the free trow to seal the deal.

Coach Greg Meyers has announced the formation of a GIRLS basketball team for grades 4-6, They will practice on Fridays from 4:00-5:30pm, beginning January 11. No experience necessary.
