Cyanotype Art with Middle School

This week in Middle School Art, students created artwork with a different medium than usual - the sun! Students worked together to create two 5' x 7' cyanotype prints, and learned about this process that requires both quickness and patience. Students had to quickly lay out cyanotype fabric in the sun, place their piece of sculptural art onto the fabric for three minutes while the fabric was exposed to the sun, and then quickly remove the piece and submerge the fabric in a cooler full of ice water. Later in this quarter, students will create smaller individual cyanotype prints to learn more about this multi-step process.
