  • MS Spanish Teacher

    Full-Time MS  SPANISH TEACHER for
    24-25 Academic School Year

    Island School (ischool.org) seeks a middle  school school Spanish teacher with a commitment to independent school education in a college preparatory environment. The full-time position for the 24-25 school year includes teaching four-five classes depending on level assigned. Classes could range from Middle School Spanish 1A to Spanish 1, depending on experience. Pay range for a full-time faculty member role for 24-25 depending on years of experience and education: $51,500-$72,500.

    Island School is a WASC/HAIS accredited PK-12 independent day school with a total enrollment of just over 500 students. The school is located on the rural island of Kaua`i, the northwestern most inhabited island in the Hawaiian archipelago, which, due to its stunning natural beauty, is known as the "Garden Island."     The successful candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, and a desire to be part of an independent school community. Candidates should have experience differentiating instruction to work effectively with a range of learners, demonstrate a passion for teaching Spanish / world languages and demonstrate effective classroom management strategies. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in teaching at the middle and/or high school level. Additional responsibilities include serving as an advisor and full participation in the life of the school.  2+ years of relevant teaching experience in an independent school preferred.

    Minimum Qualifications include:

    • B.S. / B.A. degree or international degree equivalent in Spanish or education
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and in a group
    • Ability to communicate and work effectively with parents, students, faculty, and staff
    • Ability to motivate and manage students
    • Strong work ethic, adaptability, generous spirit, sense of humor, and confidence working with students
    • Commitment to and alignment with the School's mission and vision

  • Substitute Teacher

    Island School, a private, college preparatory school for students in grade PK - 12 is currently looking for  inspired and well-qualified Substitute Teachers (on-call employment)  for all grades from PreK-12. The ideal candidates shall be energetic and experienced in working with a range of students in a safe, fun, and nurturing environment. Since students' needs are constantly changing, the Substitute Teacher  must also be highly organized, flexible, and able to demonstrate compassion and patience.  Pay range $25-$27 per hour. 
     
    It is expected the successful candidates would:
    • Teach classes following overall plans of the current teacher; as well as plan without support
    • Communicate with students and parents as necessary; Make classes meaningful and relevant by inspiring students
    • Monitor, assess, and give feedback on student learning on a regular basis both formally and informally
    • Incorporate educational technology throughout instruction and course work
    • Perform additional duties, including but not limited to supervision of lunch/recess, attend faculty meetings, etc.
    • A sense of humor, warmth of personality, and energy
    • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to students.
    • Performs all extra duties for the absent teacher as required by the Division Director and/or Head of School.
    • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
    • Prepares for the class(es)as assigned and follows the lesson prepared by the absent teacher.
    • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Bachelor's Degree, preferred
    2. Experience working with teenagers in an educational environment is preferred.
    3. Ability to perform each essential job function satisfactorily.
    4. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
    5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents, as needed.
    6. Ability to use computers for classroom instruction and record keeping.
    7. TB Clearance, required for employment.
