The Island School Middle School team competed in the Regional Science Olympiad Competition at Kaua‘i Community College this past weekend. Students felt more prepared at this competition after attending earlier invitationals, as several of their builds were tested under conditions similar to what they will experience at the State tournament. Boomilever and Helicopter were both evaluated using state-level parameters, giving students valuable feedback and insight.
In addition to the build events, the team competed in a variety of knowledge-based events, including Entomology (the study of insects), Solar System, Circuit Lab, Anatomy and Physiology, Dynamic Planet (Oceanography), Disease Detectives, and more.
Island School advanced to the State Competition to represent Kaua‘i.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Ryan Girard, his staff, and the many volunteers who hosted the event and supported our preparation for States.
