A Senior Year Tradition

Last Friday, Island School seniors took their annual trip to Nuʻalolo with Kumu Sabra. For over ten years, the Island School senior class spends a day together in this important place that is only accessible by boat, taking the time to be present with one another and to give back to Kauaʻi in a meaningful way. The Island School senior class is among the few groups allowed to enter Kuʻalolo Kai each year.

Students met at the Kikiaola Harbor at 4:15am to head out before the captains from Blue Ocean and Captain Andy's started their work day. Bioluminescence lit up the water on the ride there. Once they arrived, students spent the day caring for this sacred site, pulling invasive plants, and learning from Kumu Sabra and members of the Nā Pali Coast ʻOhana, a stewardship organization dedicated to the preservation of the natural and cultural resources of the Nā Pali Coast State Park.
