Nā Pua Keiki spent a gorgeous day in Waimea Valley yesterday! Students started the day off by feeding the pigs mai`a cut by parent helpers. They hurried back and forth filling their arms with loads of mai`a stumps and leaves. When the pigs were all filled up, it was time to get to work.
Keiki were tasked with making piles of 50 huli to get them ready to plant. After learning about the story of Hāloa, keiki helped pull the roots and all the old lau off then separate large piles of pulled kalo into "makua huli" and "keiki huli." It was a day to learn about pa`a hana (hard work) and kūleana (responsibility). Big mahalo to our family volunteers for all the hard work.
