Curiosity Driven Inquiry Project

Ms. Keana noticed the keiki were especially interested in a story about endangered animals. This sparked thoughtful conversations about native Hawaiian animals that are endangered, with a special focus on birds.
Inspired by their curiosity, we decided to go on a bird-watching adventure across the street to the pond. We set out hoping to spot the ʻAukuʻu, ʻAlae ʻUla, Aeʻo, and Kōlea. Ms. Keana brought binoculars so we could take a closer look and observe carefully. As we listened quietly, we heard the call of an ʻAlae ʻUla and even caught a brief glimpse before it retreated into the thick grass. Our adventure continued back near our classroom, where we discovered Kōlea in several different spots. We will continue observing and learning as we look for more native birds. Stay tuned to see where this adventure leads us next!
