Happy Thursday, which feels like a Friday because we do not have school tomorrow. I hope that everyone has a lovely weekend ahead. For those gathering with family to honor Passover, Easter, or simply the arrival of spring—particularly if your traditions come from places where the seasons change more dramatically—I wish you meaningful time with those you love. In a time in our world that is seeing a rise in conflict and violence, taking the time to turn towards keiki in your life, ʻohana in both its close and most broad sense of the word, and the ʻāina is more important than ever. I hope you are able to have a weekend filled in some way with the joy of any or all of those three.
Spring is always an important time in independent schools. It is the natural routine for faculty and staff to confirm if they will be returning next year, and for our current families to choose to re-enroll. We are so grateful to have so many families who believe in the important work we do every day to build creative programming, support young people through challenging times when they make mistakes and need to grow from them, and to be a small community that really knows our students so we can honor both their gifts and meet them as they face their challenges. It is an honor to help students discover more in themselves than they knew was there.
Island School has the great gift of the foundation of our first 50 years to build upon as we head into our next 50 years and what it means today for our students to become future engineers, journalists, poets, digital designers, analysts, content influencers, business owners, song writers, film makers, makers and builders, muralists, educators…and so much more. Together we are investing in our collective future and helping shape the unknown possibilities that lie ahead. The spring is often a time where we get to see our students' work culminate in ways we sometimes did not even know was possible. Let’s enjoy these final weeks of the school year together.
As always, we are so grateful to you for entrusting Island School with the education of your children.
