Elementary School Science Fair

This week, all students in third, fourth, and fifth grade presented their science fair posters to fellow students and teachers. These students have been learning about the Scientific Method and conducting science experiments in class. This was an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of the Scientific Method on their own. Each student chose their own topic, and had three weeks to complete their experiments and poster boards. Fifth grade teacher Caitlin Kaʻaihue said that, throughout this process, she has seen an increase in motivation and passion in her students! Students were able to pick their own topics, and some students chose topics that have connections to their real lives and passions.

Project topics in fifth grade included: best soil for plant growth, what fibrous root systems slows erosion the best, which laundry detergent removes stains the best, which native plants can clean hands the best, the best wood to use to start a fire, and more.

Projects in fourth grade included: which solid dissolves best in water, do plants respond to human speech, which liquid melts the color of Skittles the fastest, and more.

Project topics in third grade included: can we turn a Jolly Rancher into jelly, which type of chocolate will melt the fastest, what type of paper airplane will fly the fastest, and more.
