At Nā Pua Keiki, students have been learning about the art of printmaking with Ms. Kara. Students enjoyed a cherished book of Joan Shaw’s that she kindly donated full of Hokusai pop-ups! Students learned about woodcarvings and noticed the nature themes in the art. When discussing “The Great Wave”, these voyagers had some insightful shares.
“Wow!!!” exclaimed Isla as the wave popped out of the book. “There is big, strong wave pushing the upper water up into a wave”, said Kenzo. “Maybe the art is connected to God”, was Hugo’s thought. “It looks like it’s from Japan”, pondered Sofia- which, she was correct! Students then explored monoprinting with markers, styrofoam, water and paper.
