Nā Pua Keiki are working on their costumes for Hōʻike! This week, students worked with their High School Big Buddies to collect naupaka. The keiki carefully ripped the leaves into smaller pieces in preparation for creating our natural dyes. Later in the week, Aunty Kori King, a master of natural dyes, joined them to guide the next step of our work. The naupaka leaves were added to boiling water to help extract their natural color. Each keiki placed their costume into the dye bath and gently stirred it, watching the transformation unfold. The costumes were then hung up to dry and allow the colors to set.
