Young Artists Win Contest

Congratulations to our seven winners in the state art contest "Young Artists of Hawai‘i," an annual student art competition that recognizes creative excellence among Hawai‘i's students in kindergarten through sixth grade. A panel of distinguished judges selects 96 works from many statewide submissions. Artwork must depict the theme, "My Culture, My Family, and Me." The 96 winning pieces of artwork will be on display at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum from May 3rd through June 28th 2019. Replicas of these pieces will also be on display at the Hawai‘i Convention Center's Pa Kamali‘i Courtyard from April 2019 through March 2020.

The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts will pay for air and ground transportation for these students and their teachers to attend the awards ceremonies at HiSAM, which will be held on Saturday, May 4th.

The second grade used a mixed media technique, working with their teacher, Jen Pomroy. The third grade did collages with their teacher, Penny Nichols. All of the work has to be 18" x 24" – quite large. The finished pieces took a lot of time and work. Ms. Jen and Ms. Penny are so proud of these student artists!

Here are their works of art and the titles they created.
