Our Mock Trial Team placed 3rd in State last weekend. While this certainly fell short of their goal to successfully defend their state title, in some important ways this team achieved more than it did so last year. They had to find a way to come together as a team with significant youth and inexperience (five freshmen and several newcomers) to meet the demands of a challenging case. They did so these past weeks and this weekend, and in the end, their efforts against a veteran team resulted in falling just 2 points short from advancing to the state final.
Team captains, Valeria De La Mora '19 and Audrey Warner '19 did a great job leading the team and preparing the case. LilyReynolds '20 received recognition as outstanding attorney and Matthew Vickers '20 received recognition for outstanding witness. Other team members are worthy of our congratulations: Max Movaghar '19, Bryant Wu '19., Emma Thain '20, Mia Lopez '20, AnaisOffley '21, Jenevieve Netto '22, Francesca Bivens '22, Cass Hubbard '22, Dominica DeTrolio '22, Zeke Gamby '22, and Maiya Oshima '22.
Many thanks to our supporters, especially Shannon Graves, Katie Magoun, Alice Pajela and Mike Goto for helping with all the seemingly endless logistical details in the past weeks. Also a grateful note of thanks to Renate McMullen, who served as chaperone and cheerleader. If not for her attentive support and direction, our team would still be wandering around the Ala Moana Mall. And finally, a huge shout-out to adviser, Andrew McMullen for his leadership and dedication.
