Four of our Middle School students competed at the national Student Television Network Convention in Seattle, WA, last week. They were awarded 2nd place for Middle School Spot Feature. They also attended workshops held by professionals in the industry.
Student Television Network Convention is a convention where students from across the nation compete in a variety of contests (music video, news story, sports commentary, commercials, etc). Our students competed in the Middle School Spot Feature contest. There were about 32 Hawai‘i Schools in attendance, including five from Kaua‘i. Our team was very special because it was Island School's first time attending, while the others had years of experience participating in this event. In addition, these highly motivated students spent their weekends and lunch times working on their video with their adviser, Janet Powell, and members of the PBS Student Television Network, Hiki No.
Congratulations to 8th graders, Bradley Pratt, Mackenna Tamanaha, Sky Stewart, Thatcher Magoun, and their teacher, Janet Powell! They would like to thank Sudz Car Wash, Lapperts Hawai‘i, and Stewart Munroe; their contributions helped to make this trip possible.
