The Mock Trial state competition was held March 10-14. Because it was a virtual format, there were no preliminary rounds as in previous years and we drew Punahou in the opening round on Wednesday. We were inexperienced (only 2 of our team members had ever competed before), and it showed in a relatively clear loss. But here's the thing, it was a transformational moment for our students. During the next twenty-four hours, our team learned and adapted and focused and persevered in their efforts, so that our next match on Thursday against McKinley was a win as was our Friday match against Waipahu. Because of the students' efforts, Island School advanced to the state semi-finals on Saturday. The team performed well against a very strong Moanalua team (the eventual state champions), losing by only 3 points, and in the end, Island School was third overall in points. It was, as always, a great ride with our students, and we hope you will pass along your congratulations to the members of this year's team: Olivia L. (Captain) Alexa L. (Co-Captain) Talia B.
