Studio Arts Students were each assigned a reef creature native to Hawaii to learn about.
Using donated upholstery fabric, scissors, needle and thread (and their imagination) they designed a 3-dimensional representation of their animal..
Learning Objectives: Students gained skill in hand sewing techniques including translation of 2-d concept into 3-d design, techniques of fabric pattern-making and the basics of working with an arrange of fabric materials.
Each student learned and mastered a minimum of 5 different hand stitching techniques and were required to make conscious and intentional use of materials. This project helped students cultivate hand eye skill, steadiness and patience, presence and follow-through on a long term creative goal.
