Aloha Island School ‘Ohana,

What an action-packed week with students back on campus, ending with big events in athletics! While the quiet of the October Break allowed me to get quite a few tasks done, campus is so wonderfully alive this week with students, faculty, and staff filling the classrooms and outdoor spaces. And while this past Tuesday’s return to school had some tears in the crosswalk (and likely at home too) for some struggling with the return of the routine of school, many looked forward to time with friends and the opportunities school provides. And while the school year in some ways feels as if it just started, the 2nd Quarter is a typical time across independent schools to start getting into gear for the admission season for the 25-26 school year. Island School grows and gets stronger as a community through our ʻohana. So I write to ask you to consider how we might open doors together…

Island School needs the full support of our community through the Admission process so that we can continue to fulfill our mission, “Educating the mind, inspiring the heart. Preparing Kauaʻi youth to lead lives of significance”?

The strongest support you can give is by telling your friends about Island School. Many folks have their own perceptions of Island School from when they were growing up on Kauaʻi or from stories they have heard but had no direct experience themselves. If you know someone who has a school-age child who you think might benefit from Island School, please share your story with them and encourage them to consider us. No one is asking you to paint an “all rosy” story – life isn’t that way, and no school is perfect. But your openness and candor about what we do offer and how their child might benefit goes a long way as a family considers how they might invest in their child’s education by choosing a tuition-based school.

If you enjoy talking to families about Island School, volunteer to be an admission ambassador during our Open House and Information Session Events. Your participation speaks volumes about your commitment to the school, and your perspective when speaking to other parents helps round out the information we share as school administrators and teachers. If you are interested in helping us, reach out to Sean Magoun (s.magoun@ischool.org) and/or Dayna Ragasa (d.ragasa@ischool.org), our admissions team.

Finally, encourage people you know to attend our admission events, and let them see our teachers in action, step into classrooms, and listen in on our students engaging in their learning. Let them see for themselves a little taste of what we do. Please share with friends about Island School, and you can help shape our program by helping us grow our ‘ohana. Share this link if someone you know wants to register here for the Upper School event if you or a friend is looking at Grades 6-12. Or if they’re interested in PK - Grades 2 for next year, they can register here.

As always, mahalo for your belief in our community and for entrusting your children’s education to this dedicated team at Island School.

Together,

Nancy Nagramada

P.S.
I have such gratitude for those of you who have jumped in and participated in the Annual Voyager Fund! If you didn’t get the chance, please check out this short video here regarding how the Annual Voyager Fund supports programming across the school. Let’s keep working together towards our 100% participation goal in the Annual Voyager Fund in the name of all that we can do together for our Island School ‘ohana!
