Last week we received the news of the unexpected passing of former Head of School Dr. Bob Springer, who after a fall died from the impact of the injuries he sustained. Dr. Springer served as Island School's Head of School for 17 years in a career that covered 55 years of teaching and administrative leadership. He was central in building our high school program. When he arrived in 1997, Island School had 169 students and when he retired, the school had more than doubled to 370 students in 2015. We owe so much of our foundation of who we are as a school to Dr. Springer's leadership.
His daughter, Daryl, worked in Island School's development office and ultimately served as Director of Institutional Advancement prior to going to law school, His wife, Leinani, was also very much a part of the school and is credited for our Alma Mater. Our hearts are with the family.
