This past weekend, Island School did extremely well in the Cross Country State Championship Meet.
First, the girls represented the Blue and Gold in spectacular fashion. Jaden De Souza '21 placed second in the race out of 200 girls (20:8.19). She had a most phenomenal finish, passing two other runners 40 yards away from the finish line! Ella Beck '21 finished 34th (22:01.73) and had a great race as well. Emma Thain '20 (24:17.67) and Olivia Lutkevich '21 (24:49.77) also had wonderful races. Coach Eric Wortmann and Coach W are happy to report that all of the girls will be back next year to compete for a KIF Championship.
The boys also did well. Matthew Vickers '20 had an awesome race and finished 21st (17:58.66). Other Voyager runners included: Josh Graves (18:32.95), Elijah Ibbs '22 (19:20.41).Henry Scherer '19, who ran his last high school cross country race, (19:40.23), Caleb Brown '22 (20:41.12), and James Pratt '20 (21:20.70), The boys as a team placed an impressive 4th in Division II. Five of our six boys that ran this weekend are going to be back next year. This means we have the potential to win three KIF cross country championships in a row. That would be the first time in Island School history. Go, Voyagers!
