Isle Hoops is a community club basketball team, where kids and teens can play against each other from other parts of the island. Isle Hoops has three divisions, elementary, middle, and high school. It’s open to all kids in the community but, most of the kids that play for Isle Hoops are from Island School. Jack Viohl and Corey Dobashi are key people who helped start this whole basketball program about three years ago. Thanks to them, it gives kids an opportunity to get physically fit and a chance for them to find a new hobby that they enjoy. Having this club also helps encourage kids to play basketball and to keep on playing throughout their middle and high school years.
Island School’s Junior Varsity Boys Basketball program held its first annual SHOOT-A-THON Fundraiser on November 3rd at Island School’s Wilcox Gym from 1:00 - 3:00pm. This fundraiser was held to help raise money for the JV Boys Basketball team to go to their pre-season games on the Big Island on November 15- 18. Each player collected pledges from their friends and family members. They then got to shoot 100 free throws, in which their successful shot were then recorded. There were three categories throughout this fundraiser: most free throws made, most pledges raised, and most free throws in a row. The top three players in each of these categories received prizes.
[Editor's note: Congratulations to our Voyagers! With 100% participation, our basketball players collectively raised a net total of $3,635.28 towards their upcoming Kailua-Kona trip at last weekend's Shoot-a-thon!]
