Both Niki and James qualified for the HHSAA State Golf Championship and will compete at Waikoloa Kings G.C. on the Big Island on May 9 and 10. Henry Scherer finished his Voyager golf career shooting 102 - 92 -- 194 and placing 14th.  Justice Snyder '21 shot 99 - 108 -- 207 finishing in 16th place.

Tennis
Many of our Voyager boys and girls competed in the double and singles KIF championship tournament. Haven Sadler '22, Ava Anderton '22, and Samantha Brown '22 played in the girls singles tournament. Top seeded, Haven had a tough break when the strings on her racket broke, causing her to lose to KHS 6-2, 6-1. Melina Ventura '22 and Gianna DeTrolio '20, Paulina Do '21 and Alexa Lauryn '21, and Lily Reynolds  '20 and Kalia Hamid '20 played in the girls doubles tournament. Sasha Rovinsky '19, Patrick McKenna '20 and Reed Brown '22 contended in the boys singles tournament. Patrick won his first game 5-7, 6-2, 10-5. Foster McLychok '21 and Andrew Sclafani '21, Max McLychok '21 and Zach Davis '22, and the duo of Canaan Washburn '22 and Kaikea Kaui '20 aced their opponents in the boys doubles tournament.

Congratulations to Sasha Rovinsky who won the boys tennis singles KIF championship. Sasha played, and won a total of eight matches this year. He won 16 of the 16 sets he played, and took 95 of the 96 games he played. Mr. Rovinsky will head to the Big Island to play in the State Tournament at Mauna Lani Sports and Fitness Club. The tournament is from May 9th through May 11th.

Track
The 2019 KIF Track Season has ended. As tough as this year has been, Island School still was able to produce a few individual champions and the only school with record setters.
Josh Graves '20 – KIF champion and set a new record in the 800m
Jaden DeSouza '21 – KIF champion and set new records in 400m and 800m
Ella Beck '21 – KIF champion 1500m and 3000m and qualified for State in the 1500m
Matt Vickers '20 - KIF champion 1500m and qualified for State in the event
Ella Offley '22, Mahie Beck '19, Ki’ilani Arruda '20, Jaden DeSouza '21 - KIF champions in the girls 400m Relay

Although we weren’t able to hoist the Championship trophy, Island School continues to make ground and each year we get closer and hopefully next year is that year. In overall combined points, Island School finished second. Not bad for a team with 1/3 the numbers of the top finishers.

The KIF hosted one last qualifying meet this past Thursday, March 25th at Vidinha Stadium for teams and individuals close to qualifying for States. Island School’s girl’s relay(s) team of Ella Offley, Mahie Beck, Ki’ilani Arruda, Jaden DeSouza, Sydney Jona '22, and Taylor Raco '22 and the boy’s 400m relay team of Josh Graves, Luke Hunadi 21, James Pratt '20, and Matt Vickers were invited to participate. Also invited was Bryant Wu '19 in the discus, as well as Ethan Inanod '22 and Luke Hunadi '21 in the long and triple jumps. In the end, the girls 4 x 100m relay team of Jona, Offley, Raco, and Mahie Beck were able to get a qualifying time for States and in doing so punched their ticket to the State Competition.

We’d like to thank all those that came out and supported all of our track athletes this season. We’d also like to wish the following athletes who qualified for the 2019 Island Movers State Track and Field Championships on May 3rd – 4th on Maui Island, the best of luck: Josh Graves, Jaden DeSouza, Ella Beck, Matthew Vickers, Sydney Jona, Ella Offley, Taylor Raco, Mahie Beck.

Our best wishes also go out to our departing seniors who graced us with one last race, and final toss: Mahie Beck, Connor Darnbrough, Henry Scherer, Audrey Warner, and Bryant Wu.
