After investigating the story Elmer, Nā Pua Keiki designed their own elephant trunks and ears (paper crowns decorated with markers and crayons, and paper towel rolls decorated with scraps of colorful fabric) to hold a happiness parade on our main campus. Elmer is a very colorful elephant with a patchwork design all over. His gray elephant herd loved his humor and playful antics. One day Elmer painted himself gray (since he was the only colorful elephant in the herd). This joke brought on the biggest laughs of all! From that day on, the elephants marked this day as “The day of Elmer’s best joke”. So every year, the herd holds a parade in Elmer’s honor as they decorate themselves with many colorful patterns and Elmer decorates himself elephant color.
