Pre-Kindergarten

Philosophy: Being. Belonging. Becoming.

Children are creators of their own learning and life story. They are competent and capable of developing their own theories, questions, curiosities, and interests. They shape the learning curriculum.

Inspiration

“Give students something to do, not something to learn;  and doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results.”

Education is a social process; education is growth; education is not preparation for life but is life itself.”

- John Dewey
American Educator and Philosopher

Curriculum: We Engage. We Wonder. We Inspire.

Our purpose is to cultivate a sense of being, belonging, and becoming  through playful learning that is child-centered. We aspire to be a welcoming place that embraces children’s curiosity and wonder through discoveries in our environment and community. Authentic learning experiences are cultural, environmental, and  co-constructed by children, teachers, families, and community.

We believe in inspiring a lifetime of learning through curiosity, cultivating community, and fostering collaboration.

Reflection

`Ohana Mornings allow our students to reflect on their learning experiences with their families. Students and teachers create a learning gallery of their work, and then walk through with their families to show and share their progress. This reflection time allows students to make sense of material and class experiences in relation to oneself, others, and the conditions that shaped those materials and experiences, which helps them to reimagine material/experience for future personal or social benefits. Additionally, it allows our students to see the importance of their own learning process, and motivates them to enjoy that process.
