Sports Update 2-6-19

JV Boys Basketball
The season continued with games on Tuesday, January 29, and on Saturday, Febrary 2. Both games were at their opponents' home courts.
On Tuesday evening, Voyagers traveled to Bernice Hundley Gymnasium where the Kapa‘a Warriors hosted their final home game of the 2018-2019 season. From the opening tip-off, Island School struck first and built up a 5 point lead on Kapa‘a. True to their the name, the Warriors rallied and gained momentum, finishing up the quarter strong with 8 straight points in the last minute. For the next two quarters, the Voyagers experienced a shooting drought, something they have not had to overcome all season. Being down 13 late in the third quarter, the Voyagers caught wind in their sails and stormed a courageous comeback, scoring 21 points in the last 10 minutes and 20 seconds. This was led by the defense of  sophomore and team captain Ethan Inanod's six steals and the interior presence of freshman Dylan Date. However, the warriors rallied once more late in the fourth quarter with four straight baskets, outlasting the Voyagers 43 to 30 as time expired.
On Saturday evening, Kaua‘i High hosted their final home game of the 2018-2019 season. Team Captain Luke Hunadi '21 said before the game, "The team was eager to put the last game behind them and come out strong versus Kaua‘i High." The Voyagers did just that, sinking five straight baskets right out of the gate. However, the Red Raiders answered right back, sinking their last four baskets at the end of the first quarter. That was the last glimmer of light Kaua‘i High would see, as the Voyagers poured on a flurry of baskets, mounting a commanding 24 point lead going into the fourth quarter. Island School saw contributions from all 10 Voyagers who suited up to play, with eight of them tallying points on the scoreboard. Voyagers finish off Red Raiders 58 to 41. They were led by the marksman eye of freshman team captain Josh Dobashi's 19 points and the dominating rebounding of sophomores Wanbli Primeaux and Luke Hunadi, who combined, snagged 22 rebounds and chipped in 22 points.

Mahalo to Team Mom, Sharon Inanod, for her terrific reporting.
