Our Wai Inquiry

Our wai inquiry over the past weeks have taken us on a journey with curiosity and learning experiences.  Our inquiry process includes:  A Central Organizational Concept: At the heart of each of our investigations is a central, overarching concept. Inquiry topics:  offering of many topics to investigate and explore.  Topics are driven by questions and wonderings.  Real Experiences: Dynamic experiences relate to questions or wonderings.  Investigations are playful and firsthand.

After several weeks of exploring the waterways at our school the keiki wanted to try fishing since they discovered fish living in our pond and through the stream. They collected the bamboo for their fishing poles.  A few parents joined us for this experience.  The keiki caught two fish and it was a very exciting experience in the catch and the ability to look and feel the fish.  After exploring what lived in our waterways the keiki explored the movement in the stream.  While at Ms. Keana’s ranch, we collected coconuts to paint and created a coconut float activity.  This was very exciting as they noticed the speed and roadblocks in the stream.  The day before the coconut float, the keiki cleared debrief away from the stream.  Following the float activity the keiki used their coconuts for rolling and bowling.
